Types of Degrees

If you are considering earning your master's degree, it is important to understand the different types of degrees that are available. While there are dozens of areas of study from which you can choose, they all fall under one of these three types of master's degrees.

First of all, there is the Master of Arts. You would choose to work on earning this master's degree if you are interested in humanities, social science, fine art, or theology. However, most Masters of Science programs do involve at least some research or field study and dissertations are usually required for these master's degrees, though that can vary depending upon the college or university attended. Some examples of Masters of Science would be a Master of Engineering, a Master of Veterinary Science, a Master of Science in Information Technology, and a Master of Nursing.

Finally, there is the Master of Science in law. This program is not designed for people who want to become lawyers - you will not be able to practice law after you have earned this master's degree. Instead, this program is intended for people who want a better understanding of law so that they can work in businesses that frequently involve litigation. A Master of Science in law can also help paralegals who seek more advanced training. People who choose to study for this master's degree can choose a specific area of concentration, such as human resources law, elder law, or managerial law.

Any of these types of master's degrees will help to expand your career qualifications. And, any of these will also help to increase your earning possibilities. So, the decision of which one to choose should really be based upon what you are enjoy - after all, you will want to work in a career in which you are interested.
